OSHA and Small Business

by Michael Sleigh on 2007-07-24 13:06:37 - Email This

Many businesses fear the arrival of an OSHA inspector.  A better way for small business to approach this is to invite OSHA into their faciltiy.  The OSHA On-Site Consultation Program is a service provided to small businesses at no cost.  Employers can find out about potential hazards, improve their safety and health management systems and even qualify for a 1-year exemption from routine OSHA inspections.  During this consultation process no citations are issued and no penalties are proposed.

It seems to me that a cooperative spirit is a better alternative than an adversarial relationship.  OSHA and Small Business: A Winning Combination provides some interesting case studies in this regard.
