OSHA Aisle Width

OSHA does not have any general requirement for aisle width but there are requirements in some specific situations.  For instance, there is a requirement in storage rooms where flammable and combustible liquids are stored that aisles be at least 3 feet wide and that 28 inches is the minimum width for emergency access.

The general OSHA requirement is that aisles and passageways have "sufficient safe clearance"  where mechanical equipment is used.  The width  will vary depending on how the aisle is utilized in the workplace.  Wider aisles are required where forklift trucks or other mechanical equipment will be used.
